Cheat Code Activated | How to Catch More Smallmouth Bass
Fishing was tough for me on this day. I even tried fishing nightcrawlers with no success. Once I started adding small pieces of licorice to my ned rig, I started getting bites and catching fish. I hope you enjoy this video.

You need to put baking grease for it to slip out
Thank you for mentioning the use of leaded line for the buoys. It always is risky when boating near crab buoys because many people just use the cheap floating nylon line. If I use nylon line I insert lead core into it near the buoy to sink the line. Thank you also for attaching the buoys in the right direction.
You’re welcome. And thank you for the comment.
Tying them knots with gloves on is crazy 😂.
I agree. It’s Not ideal, especially in cold weather. Did it for visual purposes here.
@@NorthwestOpenSeason I wouldnt be able to do it haha. My fingers don't work like they used to 😂
I use old wrenches for weight
Do you know how long this rod is when split? I’m making a travel tube for my rods and I don’t have this rod yet but I’m planning to have it in the future and don’t want to cut my tube longer than necessary.
It is 5’2” when broken down
Curious if you've done a crab pot pulley a homemade version?
I have not.
What kind of knot do you use to attach your leaded line to the harness ring? Does it matter? Thanks for the video!
I don’t think it matters too much, but we always secure the tag end with zip ties and then wrap it with electrical tape because that lead rope doesn’t cinch down very well. Hope that helps, and good luck out there.
Wow, truth!
June 11, 2024-- I purchased this exact rod in 2021. Because I have had a long term illness, I didn't use it until last week. Using a red/white bobber and 1/8oz weight, the pole broke 1 1/2ft from the tip. Fluke? I;m sticking with Penn.
what hook size are you using?
I don’t remember for sure, but probably a 1/0
@@NorthwestOpenSeason Aren't sizes like 6/0 used for rockfish and lingcod? Or were you going for another type of fish?
@@MatveyMotion I don’t use 6/0 for anything, not even sturgeon. I’m sure you could if you wanted to, they definitely have a big enough mouth.
Should have ate at the little ice cream joint across from the courthouse!
Next time!
You should’ve bought the ROCKAWAY HD VERSION THE SP IS FOR Finesse fishing. The HD lineup is for heavyweight fishing
Good to know, thanks. I think a heavier version would handle for sure.
Bene thinking about starting fishing as I have ADHD. Just worried that it isn't going to be stimulating enough?
you should've offered them a fish for their hard work, giving you so many of those shrimps, no to appear in your youtybe channel. Just saying
Oh my god I can't believe I didn't think of this myself haha! Thanks!!!!!!
Glad I could help!
Where did you get those PVC pipes from? Were they already pre cut and threaded?
Ace Hardware
Good idea ..i think im gonna make one ..but put the 2x4 going across the wheel wells ..thanks for the idea
Good idea, hope it works

I am 75 and been crabbing off and on since 1968.you guys are rocking it. Thanks for your expertise and great video!
Thank you sir. Have a wonderful day.
great! And it seems to has the further advantage to not catch the tag end with the tightening loop when setting the knot.
amazing. thank you
Good job
Thanks
? Why do you poot beeds on the rig. I wonder what the reason is 🤔
Mis clip imo 🤷♂️
not worth the risk.
That’s what we decided
It's the season for them
Why can't u keep its a hatchery fish? Cuz its supposed populate the pond/ lake?
Whether or not it was actually a hatchery fish was undetermined
@NorthwestOpenSeason no I kno but if it was why wud u not b able to keep it
@@kooskoos8181if we could have determined it was hatchery, we would have kept it
@@NorthwestOpenSeason ohhh ok
Great Catch.
Not worth the risk, IMO. Maybe you should have finished clipping it and then release it. The next guy can keep it. Just kidding.
Lol
😊@@NorthwestOpenSeason
That is awesome and such a simple concept!
I’m glad you found it helpful. Thanks for watching
You should be alright with that rod but for me, ... I would feel like I was bringing a knife to a gunfight…… just saying... There have been many times I was under gunned and lost the monsters because I wanted to be sporting…🤣🤣lol
I agree. This rod will “work” but it’s not going to do very well against anything larger than 4’-5’
@@NorthwestOpenSeason And there are those days when you bring out the big guns.… you catch Zero fish... Lol 🙃🤣🤣
Facts
Cool video fellas I'm just asking man people say they don't do good with blue crabs can you catch blue crabs with that cage people say they come out through the big squares I don't know That's why I'm asking y'all fellas is that cage good for blue crabbing
Not sure about blue crabs. We live on the west coast and have never seen a blue crab.
Good job I had to learn this the hard way.
So did I… 😅 Thanks for checking it out.
Damn that fish is strong! 3 minutes in and I thought the rod might snap it was so curled over. Nice catch!
Thanks. Yeah, I don’t think it would handle an oversize.
New sub..come over from @pnwvintageoutdoors
Cool video. Stay safe out there
Thanks, you too!
The fact that you have to use single barbless hooks so gill netters can have more fish is a crime.
Amen brother
Did you buy the pvc like that or cut it to length?
Bought it like that in 12” lengths with threaded ends and matching caps. It’s more expensive that way, but more convenient. I’ve also just cut sched 40 to length and glued caps on in the past. Both methods work
Thanks for the quick reply and awesome tips! Going to upgrade my crappy pots now. 😂
Call me naive, but why don't you just trim the tag end with finger nail clippers and not have a dangling tag? Thats what i do.
I found that the closer I trim the tag end, the more damage it does going through bait. Especially with heavier lines.
@@NorthwestOpenSeason interesting. Something that I've never considered nor thought of.... hmmmm
Flip the magnets around on the original one and the bracket could sit on top of the tailgate and be less likely to slip down or fall off.
That’s a good idea, but I have a protective plastic guard on the end of my tailgate that inhibits the magnets. It doesn’t slip anyway, I added another magnet bar to the back. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks for this. I take all the tips I can get.
Yes yes yes yes YES! I love the egg loops knot but the tag tearing up my live bait was very frustrating, I wanna buy you a six pack mate! I’ll only be doing it this way for now on, great vid too, very easy to follow along
So glad that you found it helpful. Good luck out there!
I've read nothing but good things about these gloves, watched that guy who compares a bunch of different products head to head (can't remember his name off hand) and these blew all the competitors out of the water in most of the tests he put them through. Only problem is, they increased the price of these from $15 to $25 since you made this video. Most of the 6mil nitrile gloves are still $10 to $15 per box of 100 gloves. Kinda hard to justify spending $25 on disposable gloves, especially when they nearly doubled the price in a few short years
I agree. I still really like these gloves but I couldn’t even buy them for awhile and then when they came back, they had increased the price. I’ve tried a few other brands that are pretty decent, but none seem to be as rip resistant. I’m glad you found this video helpful though.
@@NorthwestOpenSeasonTried any in the $10-$15 dollar range that you liked?

Thanks
Outstanding video…much appreciated men! 🦀. Tight lines!
Thank you.
Hell yeah, that's amazing. Thanks for the tip
Happy to help!
I never worry about “setting my hooks or breaking hooks off. I use a Penn pursuit4 4000 with 30lb braid and a 6/0 circle hook on my Dock demon rod. The reactions I get when landing monsters is hilarious. I have another with a 6000, 80lb braid and 8/0 circle hook. Thinking about using it to shark fish.
I'd like to join them for dinner Yum
Me too…
Excellent and useful variation for the egg loop. I always had the same problem when hooking my egg bags: stuck before the new loop or/and tearing the egg bag. This new knot will, definitely, solve the problem. Thank you so much.
You’re welcome. So glad you found it helpful.
Great Video, with using the single inline weight, will the bead and roe bag, get down fast enough? Whats a good length of leader after the inline weight to use for most/any rivers to make sure the presentation gets down in their faces?
In higher water, I will sometimes add a split shot or two on my leader to keep it down in their faces, otherwise those inline weights get down fast enough. If your weight doesn’t get down fast enough before you drift through, in my opinion that water is probably too fast anyway. I prefer a 24”-30” leader. With fluorocarbon there’s no need to run long leaders any more.
